Details of the speakers
Lucy Skellorn, a BIS member, holds the National Collection of Foster Irises which were introduced by her great, great grandfather Sir Michael Foster, known as the father of iris breeding.  Lucy will tell us about her life with irises, her quest to find more about her illustrious ancestor and the irisarians who were inspired by Foster. Lucy is currently a researcher at Benton End House and Garden Trust, the home of the late Cedric Morris.

Troy Scott Smith:  Troy is the Head Gardener at Sissinghurst Castle Garden and will share his deep knowledge of the garden, in particular Vita's love of flowers. Vita was a member of the British Iris Society, President of the Delphinium Society and avid collector of Old Roses.  In his talk Troy will cover some of the history of this iconic garden but also some of the more recent developments, including the reimaging of Delos, Harold and Vita's forgotten Garden.

Jan Sacks and Marty Schafer (via Zoom): Jan Sacks and Marty Schafer are the leading authorities on Siberian irises which they have been breeding for 40 years. Over that time, they have achieved some major breakthroughs in both colour and the shape of the irises.  They have achieved numerous awards, including the American Iris Society Hybridizer Award in 2007, the British Iris Society Foster Memorial Plaque in 2017. They have also been awarded the Morgan-Wood Award nine times. Jan and Marty have been BIS members for many years and often contribute articles for our Year Books, their nursery and garden is in Carlisle, Massachusetts, USA.
